How to play Free Tetris
Fit the seven block shapes into the 10-column, 20-row board. A full horizontal row disappears. Keep the stack low: the game ends when a new piece cannot enter or a piece locks above the board.
Use ← and → to move, ↑ to rotate, ↓ for a soft drop and Space for a hard drop. Press C to hold or swap a piece once before it locks, and P to pause or resume. The Next preview helps you plan your placement.
Scoring and increasing speed
Clearing 1, 2, 3 or 4 rows at once earns 100, 300, 500 or 800 points multiplied by the current level. Consecutive line-clearing pieces add a combo bonus. A soft drop adds 1 point per cell; a hard drop adds 2.
The level starts at 1 and rises after every 20 seconds of active play and every 10 cleared rows. Falling speed increases gradually with time and gets another boost every 10 rows. Paused time does not count toward progression.
Common questions
Can I play on a phone without downloading?
Yes. Open the site in a browser with JavaScript enabled. On a phone or touch device, use the on-screen move, rotate and drop buttons. No app installation or account is needed; enter a player name to start.
Why is my personal best different on another device?
Your personal best is saved in the ft_best cookie in this browser for up to one year. Another browser, private browsing or deleted cookies may show a different best. The server leaderboard is separate; clearing the visitor cookie can also change which player record is recognized.
How does my score enter the global ranking?
When a run ends, its score is sent to the server. Eligible results are checked against the session, duration and score limits. Each player record lists its highest score above zero. Ties use cleared rows, then shorter play time, then the player record ID.
